Patios & Fireplaces
Patios and fireplaces that extend the house outdoors
From a fire pit ringed with boulders to a full outdoor living space, in stone that matches the rest of the yard.
Designed around how you already live
We start with how you want to use the space. Quiet mornings with coffee, dinners outside, a fire on a cool evening — each one asks for a different patio. Then we design around flow: how the space connects to the house and the landscape, and where the stonework and the fireplace should sit to anchor it.
A fireplace turns a patio into an outdoor room, with a back wall and a chimney that send the heat forward. A fire pit is for gathering in a circle. We build both, along with flagstone and paver patios, boulder seating and complete outdoor living spaces.
The stone and materials are chosen for our region’s weather and finished with the same stonework as our walls and water features, so a new patio looks as though it belongs to the yard around it.

Answers
Patios & Fireplaces: common questions
How much does an outdoor fireplace cost to build?
An outdoor fireplace is priced after we see the site, because the size of the fireplace, the stone, the footing it needs and how it ties into a patio all change the cost. A fire pit with boulder seating is a smaller job than a stacked-stone fireplace with a full patio around it.
What is the difference between a fire pit and a fireplace?
A fire pit is open on all sides, so people sit in a circle around it, while a fireplace has a back and a chimney that send the smoke up and the heat forward. A fire pit is about gathering; a fireplace anchors a patio like a room. We build both.
Are outdoor fireplaces worth it?
They are if you will use the space. A fireplace or fire pit stretches the patio season into the cool evenings of spring and fall, and it gives the outdoor space a center people gather around. We design the patio around how you already live — morning coffee, dinners outside, or a fire after dark.
How long does a stone patio last?
A natural stone patio on a properly built base can last for decades. What decides it is underneath: a compacted base and drainage that keep water from freezing and heaving the stone. Tennessee’s freeze-thaw winters are hard on shortcuts, so we use stone and materials built for our region’s weather.
