“We believe every outdoor space should feel natural, inviting, and built to last. It starts with listening — then designing with intention, and building with the same care we’d bring to our own backyard.”
Since 2001
A Cookeville company that builds what it draws
Randy Domingue started Designs of Nature in Cookeville in 2001 as a design-build landscaping business. In 2013 he partnered with Adam to take the work into Middle Tennessee, and together they added lighting, patios and retaining walls to the planting and water work the company was known for.
The partnership became a friendship, then a family bond. It is still the reason a Designs of Nature crew treats your yard as if it were the one they go home to.
Our storyWhat we build
Five crafts, designed as one yard
Planting, water, light and stone, worked out together, so the patio, the wall below it and the waterfall beside it look as if they were always meant to be there.
01
Landscaping
Plant-focused landscapes that look good in every season — flowering shrubs and trees, fall color, evergreens for winter structure, and perennials.
02
Water Features
From bubbling urns and basalt fountains to pondless waterfalls, streams, full ponds and recreational swim ponds — each built to fit its surroundings.
03
Landscape Lighting
Low-voltage LED lighting for the house, the garden and the paths — uplighting for structure, path lights for safety, accents for the details.
04
Patios & Fireplaces
From a fire pit to a full outdoor living space — patios and fireplaces that extend the house into the landscape.
05
Retaining Walls & Stonework
Structural and decorative stonework — retaining walls, steps, walkways and accents, built on a proper base and drainage.

The walk-through
Nothing is drawn until we have walked it with you
Every project starts on your property, free, with no obligation and no pressure. This is what we look at before a single plant, stone or fixture is chosen.
Sun and shade
Where the light falls through the day decides what will grow there.
Soil, grade and drainage
Where water runs after a storm, and what the slope needs to hold.
The view from inside
What you see from the kitchen window and the back door.
Sound
How loud a waterfall should be from the patio — or how quiet.
After dark
The paths you walk at night and the trees worth lighting.
How you live outside
Coffee in the morning, dinners out, a fire on a cool evening.

Questions we hear first
What is the difference between landscaping and hardscaping?
Landscaping is the living part of a yard — trees, shrubs, perennials, lawn and beds — and hardscaping is the built part: patios, walls, steps, walkways and fireplaces. We do both, plus water and lighting, so the stone and the planting are designed together instead of by two crews who never met.
How do I choose a landscaping company?
Look at photos of their own finished work, ask how long they have been doing it, and ask who will actually build what gets drawn. Designs of Nature has designed and built landscapes since 2001, and one of our clients has had us back for more than 15 years.
What areas does Designs of Nature serve?
We serve Northeast Arkansas and Tennessee. Randy Domingue started the company in Cookeville in 2001, and since 2013 we have worked across Middle Tennessee as well. Consultations happen on site, at your property, in both regions.
What happens at a free landscape consultation?
We walk the property with you and listen first — how you use the yard, what is working and what is not. We look at sun, drainage, grade and the views from the house before anything is drawn. The walk-through is free, with no obligation and no pressure.
Is Designs of Nature a family-owned business?
Yes. Randy Domingue founded Designs of Nature in Cookeville, Tennessee in 2001. In 2013 he partnered with Adam to expand into Middle Tennessee, and that working partnership has grown into a family bond that shapes how the company still treats every client and every yard.
